i found this on Kottke a while ago... the artist has a condition that causes her skin to form painless welts when scratched. there's more examples on her website, but these 2 are my favorite.
Oh my goodness! This totally happened to me in high school. It was like hives or something, but I could scratch into my skin like she does and write words and it would raise up and be plain as day. I've never seen anyone else with it before and I've never had it since (thankfully!).
